Background

The trained accountant gave up choice career-prospects with the world's leading accountancy firm, Ernst & Young to become a certified youth counselor before emerging recently as a multi-talented rising starlet. Besides singing, Genie also composes, writes the lyrics, arranges music, dances and plays a variety of music instruments. Before starting to concentrate on singing seriously, Genie did a stint in modeling, acting and compere work.

At 23, she started her own music school (www.genie.com.sg), believing that many young talents have got what it takes to make it in music but lack opportunities - to learn and to be better, more well- crafted. Not many are gifted with natural abilities. And even for those who do have that, a little help from the guiding rope is all that they need at times to scale mountains! Only doing things for passion, she took a bold step of faith, exhausted every cent (literally!) of savings to start what she did.

Year 2005

Genie's debut in the world of music was through her album, GENIE's MOOD DIARY 君怡 - 心情日记 released in June 2005. Most of the songs contained in the CD were written and composed by Genie 君怡 herself. (Please place order here.)

She is the FIRST singer in Singapore to use her blog (which can be viewed at www.genie.sg) to launch an album of songs reaching out to the young as "Genie's Mood Diary 君怡 - 心情日记" contains a repertoire of songs inspired by, and based on, daily entries from her blog. Genie's debut album won her a nomination for the 2005 Singapore Hit Awards "Media Recognition Award - New Local Artiste".

Year 2006

In June 2006, Genie launched a virtual album titled "Genie's MAgIC (Short for Movement Against Illegal Content-sharing/downloading)", with all her original songs released purely online. This was her private initiative to educate Singaporean youths against illegal downloads, supported by IPOS and COMPASS. Genie has approached schools and tertiary institutions to bring this ongoing movement closer to the core group of people who download music from the net.

Her efforts were recognized by members of the public and she was awarded the Pantene Shine Award, through public voting, to enable her to further her anti-piracy work. Her prize money of $10,000 was pledged to promote and continue her Movement Against Illegal Content-sharing/downloading as part of her contribution to the welfare and development of local music.

2006 was also an experiential year for Genie as she assumed the lead role for a local English musical staged at the Esplanade and directed by Lionel Chok. This sell-out production required Genie to act, dance, and sing as she convincingly played a character who is much older than her own age.

In time for Christmas 2006, this lass did not rest on her laurels unwrapping presents under her Christmas tree! Genie launched a special SELL OUT Christmas CD - "BECAUSE OF LOVE 因为有爱" for Charity. This Limited Edition CD contains the singles from GENIE's MAgIC, plus a brand new original Christmas song written, co-produced and arranged by Genie, in both English and Chinese! "BECAUSE OF LOVE 因为有爱 is Genie's way of expressing her love for the less privileged and her understanding of the true meaning of Christmas as the source of inspiration behind the title track, whilst hoping to raise funds for the community in the way she might do best i.e. through her music, all BECAUSE OF LOVE!

This Christmas CD even comes with a Year 2007 Calendar with none other than Genie being magically featured from month to month - ALL PROCEEDS from the sale of the CD donated to The Salvation Army! Promotional performances and sale of the CD took place at several shopping malls all around the island through out year end!

Year 2007 to date

Genie's Mood Diary II 心情日记第二章, the latest album by Genie 君怡 was launched on 20 April 2008 following a full house preview concert at the University Cultural Centre end of 2007. The album is available at all Sembawang Music Centre stores. On the 4 June 2008, the compassionate and driven Genie spearheaded, organised and hosted the Sichuan Gift of Love Charity Dinner Concert with resounding success! These efforts resulted in a gross total of $45,601 being raised within that one night for the purpose of helping the Sichuan earthquake victims. Genie received praises from the Chinese Embassy representative to the Guest of Honour to the members of the audience and public for having pulled off such a feat with little manpower within such a short span of 10 days only to produce and prepare for the high quality full length fundraising dinner concert show.

背景

君怡拥有南洋理工大学会计系荣誉学位, 却选择放弃在世界顶尖会计公司Ernst & Young的职位, 投身青少年辅导工作, 同时不辞劳苦地开拓她的唱歌事业. 转眼间, 君怡已成为一名才华横溢, 指日可待的明日之星. 。 除唱歌以外, 君怡也擅长作曲, 作词, 编曲, 舞蹈和演奏多种乐器. 在完全投入唱歌事业之前, 君怡也曾尝试过走秀模特儿, 演戏及主持的工作.

在23岁那年, 她开办了自己的音乐培训学校, 因为她相信许多年轻并有才华的人都可能在音乐方面有所作为, 但就是缺乏机会学习及磨炼, 而且并非很多人都有天生的才能, 就算有的话, 有一条指引的绳索, 往往能够协助他们攀上更高的山峰. 因此, 完全凭着一股热忱的君怡便把她的所有积蓄都投资在音乐培训学校, 勇敢地跨出了第一步.

2005年

君怡在2005年6月推出她的首张个人专辑, "心情日记", 专辑中大多数的歌曲都是出自她的手笔. 君怡是新加坡首位以个人网上日记作为出发点发行唱片的歌手,专辑中歌曲的创作灵感都来自她网上日记一些日常的记载, 十分成功的以歌曲和时下的年轻人沟通. 2005 年11月, 君怡更凭她的这张专辑入围2005年度新加坡金曲奖"传媒推荐 - 本地新人"奖. (这张专辑可以 在此订购)

2006年

2006年6月, 君怡推出一张"虚拟"专辑 - "魔诫". 专辑以单曲的形式, 完全通过网际网络下载, 同时, 她也借此向非法音乐下载行为宣战, 推展她的"魔诫" - 反非法下载与分享运动MAgIC (Movement Against Illegal Content-sharing/downloading). 这项运动连同第一首单曲"心愿"于6月17日发布, 而第二及第三首单曲"Melbourne"和"为什么", 也分别于8月及10月发布. 除此之外, 君怡也为了这项运动到达各学府推广及教育在即学生群有关于非法网上下载的讯息.

君怡的努力也因此被大众认同并获得"潘婷炫亮大使"的荣耀和奖金$10,000. 君怡将会把这笔奖金投资在反非法下载与分享运动中.让更多人士了解到制作本地音乐的艰辛过程.

2006 年也是君怡有不同体验的一年。她在滨海艺术中心主演了一出由Lionel Chok导演的本地英语音乐剧，在这一场卖得满座的音乐剧里，君怡需要演戏，舞蹈及歌唱，并成功演绎了比她实际年龄要大许多的角色。

为迎接 2006年的圣诞佳节, 君怡为慈善筹款发布一张限量珍藏版专辑"因为有爱". 专辑除了收录"魔诫"中的单曲以外, 还有一首由君怡创作, 编曲及制作的全新圣诞歌曲, 并同时收录有中英文两个版本. "因为有爱" 是君怡对那些不幸人士所体现的关爱, 而她对圣诞节的真正涵义的了解也是促使她创作这首主打歌的原因. 君怡希望能够通过她的音乐, 为这个社群筹得善款. 专辑所有收入都捐赠给新加坡救世军.

这张限量珍藏版专辑也附上精美的2007年月历. 专辑于11月24日推出, 并在各商场有宣传活动. 专辑在宣传期间因受到大家热烈的反应. 在一个月的时间之内已经被抢购一空.

2007年至今

2007年，君怡更忙於筹备她的最新专辑"心情日第二章"，并於10月尾在国立大学文化中心举办了一场演唱会。这张专辑已於2008年4月20日推出。

2008年6月4日，极具爱心又干劲十足的君怡带领、筹办并主持了一场名为“四川爱心献礼”的慈善晚宴音乐会。在缺乏人手的情况下，君怡在短短10天内进行筹备，并成功的举办了这场高素质的晚会，为四川地震赈灾筹得了总数为$45,601的善款。而君怡的努力也获得中国大使馆代表、当晚的贵宾、观众以及公众的嘉许。
